Looking for ways to ramp up the learning and growth with your kids? Try using more games! (Whether you homeschool or just want to see amazing things happen with your kids, this post is for you!)
I recently wrote a post called “The Benefits of Including Games in Your Homeschool” after I learned some AMAZING insights from other homeschool moms about the incredible benefits of frequently using games with their kids. WOW! To say I was inspired is an understatement!
I’m so grateful these women so freely shared with me the benefits they see in their families simply from using games in their learning!
I was so enamored by all the great benefits these ladies shared with me that I decided I wanted to add more games to my homeschool!
So I reached out to some homeschool friends and asked them what their favorite games for teens were, and they gave me an amazing list! We’re so excited to try some out!
Since writing my other post on games, two more great ladies shared the benefits they see from using games with their kids:
Stephanie – I have always loved games, but felt it would be silly or self-indulgent to buy them. Playing games has opened up a whole world for my family relationally, both with my children and my extended family. My sisters-in-law and I stayed up until 2 am last night playing Ticket to Ride! We come from different languages and cultures, so it was amazing to find something over which we could connect so easily!
Kara – I just wanted to share a victory. This year we chose not to homeschool because of life circumstances and our daughter getting into a fabulous private school. But because I was a teacher and because we had done a lot of homeschool type stuff, I have continued to gameschool and supplement at home. We just had a parent teacher conference and the teacher said that she N-E-V-E-R gives the highest marks in the first semester but gave our daughter two because she was excelling. The teacher told us that her scores from their testing (they do like ipad games and comprehension from it) were over twice what they typically get excited about. She also mentioned how well she was doing in certain subjects. All this to not brag but to say that I FIRMLY believe it’s from games. I think she has ZERO fear of learning in a game and therefore has confidence when studying it in school. And she is overall all so much better for it. So keep gaming!!! It is such a powerful tool.
Here’s the highly recommended game list for teens:
Don’t these look like fun?!
