Mmmm mmmmm…. Yummy Homemade Strawberry Banana Ice Cream.
Summer is here and it’s time for homemade ice cream!
I’m not kidding when I say we looove homemade ice cream around here. Mmmmm mmmmm….
And I’m going to share with you one of our favorite recipes of strawberry banana ice cream. I love how fast this recipe is since it’s eggless!
Are you ready?
I’ve included two different recipe sizes here for you. One is a normal sized recipe, and the other is a full GALLON size recipe. Why, do you ask?
- The regular size recipe for your regular ice cream cravings.
- And the gallon size recipe is for when you want to take it on the go with you in your thermal cooker!
What’s a thermal cooker? This is a thermal cooker:
Have you ever wished you could take your homemade ice cream out with you on a summer adventure and enjoy perfectly scoopable ice cream a few hours later? Well, you can.
You see, we Johnsons we do this every year. We always make 2 huge batches of homemade ice cream every 4th of July and cart it around with us on our adventures in a thermal cooker and eat perfectly cold and scoopable ice cream in when it gets dark and we’re watching fireworks.
What in the world is a thermal cooker? And how do you keep ice cream cold in a thermal cooker?

This is likely a new concept to most people, and I’ve written about how you can transport your homemade ice cream around during the day and a few hours later, still have perfectly scoopable ice cream to enjoy.
Think of this-
- spending a day at the beach and have perfectly scoopable homemade ice cream.
- going on a campout, setting up your tent, and then having perfectly scoopable homemade ice cream to enjoy.
- going kayaking, taking two thermal cookers with you – one that is filled with your dinner, and the other that is filled with your delicious homemade strawberry banana ice cream that you can enjoy as soon as evening hits.
- Not kidding. Soooo good, and soooo cool!

Here’s the Regular-sized Recipe:
- 2 c whole milk
- 2 c heavy cream
- 1 c white sugar
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 c mashed fresh strawberries
- 2 mashed fresh ripe bananas

In a large bowl combine all ingredients. Pour the mixture into the freezer canister of your ice cream maker and freeze according to its directions.
And Here’s the Gallon Size Recipe that Perfectly Fills Your Thermal Cooker:
- 5 c whole milk
- 5 c heavy cream
- 2 1/2 c white sugar
- 3/4 tsp salt
- 5 tsp vanilla extract
- 5 c mashed fresh strawberries
- 6 mashed fresh ripe bananas

In a large bowl combine all ingredients. Pour the mixture into the freezer canister of your ice cream maker and freeze according to its directions.
