Christmas movies that the whole family can enjoy are so fun! We love gathering several times during December to watch some great Christmas movies, snuggling up on the couch and even sometimes adding popcorn and smoothies or hot chocolate to the evening. Fun!
Pretty much everyone knows about movies like Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, and Frosty the Snowman, and even The Santa Clause, but along with those kinds of fun Christmas movies our family has a beloved set of less common Christmas movies that are great wholesome and enriching fun, and do a great job at bringing in the Christmas spirit!
Here are 5 uncommon wonderful family Christmas movies that we think your family will enjoy, too!
Cary Grant plays an angel that has been called upon to help a family who needs help drawing closer again. He’s so debonair and the story is really lovely!
I’m willing to bet that many people haven’t heard of this one. My parents had this movie on VHS and my sisters and I watched this over and over, and over. We practically had the whole thing memorized! “This is my box! This is my box! I never travel without my box!” sings one of the three kings… I haven’t found it available anywhere on DVD, only on VHS on Amazon (the image is linked to it below).
HOWEVER! It IS on youtube in six parts, for free! Once my son found out about this, he kindly copied all six parts and burned it to a DVD for me so I can watch it all that way. Melted my heart! And when he found out a group was performing it nearby, he got us tickets and took me on a date! Ahhh… The singing and the orchestra were so beautiful! He knows how much I love this story!
Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, Part 6
Holiday Inn was a great accidental find for us! We had no idea it existed and stumbled upon it one day way back when video stores were closing down. It sat on the shelf for a dollar and when I saw it I knew I had found a gold mine!
It’s a great old movie with lots of amazing dancing and singing. Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire are a great match.
Ok, you may have heard about this one, but you’d be surprised how many people I’ve talked to who haven’t. I am a die hard for great musicals! There is so much great entertainment packed in this movie, and it has a great story line!
I didn’t link to this one in the title because its availability comes in different forms. It’s not available on Amazon as a stand-alone video except on VHS, but you can get it combined with other movies like I’ve shared below.
The Christmas Box is a story about a young family who wants a great life together. The dad has started a business and is doing super well, but doesn’t seem to have enough time for his family. A sweet story unfolds to remind him of what matters most.
The Christmas Box and Timepiece (which is the prequel to the Christmas Box. I haven’t seen it yet.)
Or with a set of several other movies. (I haven’t seen any of the other movies in this collection, but if they’re good, that’s a pretty good deal to get The Christmas Box and nine other movies for that price.)
I can’t help but share a bonus movie!
It’s a Wonderful Life
Ok, you’ve probably heard about this movie. But I just had to add it to this list since it is one of our favorites. Good ol’ George Bailey. 🙂
I hope that whatever things you do this Christmas to spend time with your family brings you great joy!

I love these ideas and am super excited to try the new suggestions! Our family LOVES “It’s a Wonderful LIfe,” and we always watch “The Muppet Christmas Carol.” It seems silly that this would be our favorite version of Charles Dickens’ classic, but it is just darling. 🙂

We haven’t seen that one! We’ll have to try it! Thanks Stephanie!
